Pittsburgh Update

Bantams Shine in Pittsburgh
The Bantams took the ice, rushed to get dressed and played their best game of the tournament. Rob Sprankle started out the scoring at 8:51 left in the 1st period on an assist from Alex Aud and Michael Darges. A mere 45 second later, Trey Anderson buried the puck to give the team a 2-0 lead.
During the second period, the scoring continued with a goal with 3:05 left from Alex Grove and Ryan Steffens then at 1:48 left, Sam Rienhard found the twine from Sprankle. The team scored again, scoring more in this game than they had the rest of the trip. Alex Aud scored with 3:38 to go in the game with assists from Grove and Anderson. The game ended in regulation 5-5 and went to sudden death overtime where the time passed with no one scoring, though both teams had chances to finish in overtime.
With the game tied, it was time a 3 man shoot out. After three shooters, it was still tied and time for a Sudden Death shoot out. Bret Bischler scored first in Sudden Death. Then goalie Kenny McCarthy came up with a huge save to give the team an 8-7 final victory.

Bantam Update
The Bantam team battled hard, after coming off of two losses, 5-1 to Trenton and 6-0 to Cambridge. During the 2nd game against Cambridge, Carolina netted the first goal with 13:21 to go in the first period on a goal by Sam Meaux from Rob Sprankle. 12 seconds later, Braden Taylor playing with a lower body injury, found the twine from Alex Grove.
The Hawks put in 3 unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead into the period break. Then 1:40 into the 2nd period, Trey Anderson beat the goalie to knot the game at 3-3. He was assisted on the play by Alex Aud and Michael Farmer. The rest of the period was intense. Goalie Grant “Sunshine” Laughrey made several key saves, including enduring a 6 on 5 for the final minute as the Hawk coach went for the win.

arly to take a 1-0 lead. They played to a tight 2nd period and the score went into the third period at 1-0 against a faster Hawks team. About midway through the 3rd period, Ryan Steffens blasted a low hard shot from the point that found the back of the net due in part to a great screen by the Lightning forwards. Grant Laughrey had another outstanding game in net.
The team then boarded the buses for a day in Toronto and Niagara Falls.
